Russell Underhill started his film career as a commercials director. He spent more than 15 years directing commercials for leading companies around the World. As a director, his work has been awarded on several occasions in New York; London; South Africa and South East Asia. In 2010, Russell turned to producing commercials and set up a production company in South Africa called Propeller Films. This company represents a host of award winning directors and has produced work for clients from Asia, Middle East, Europe and Pan Africa. In 2018 Russell joined forces with Mehul Savani to set up Propel Visions in East Africa. The company is currently based in Nairobi and works throughout East Africa. Propel Visions represents a number of international award winning directors. Russell is very detail driven when it comes to providing directors with all they need to fulfill a brief. Mehul Savani effortlessly bridges the divide between business and creativity. Mehul holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree and has more than a decade of experience running one of the most successful IT solutions company in East Africa. Mehul’s love for films and acting has prompted him to produce short films, TV series. He has also featured as an actor in films, TV dramas in both India and East Africa. As a co-owner of Propel Vision Limited Mehul looks forward to steering the company into exciting new business ventures including high end TV commercials, content as well as longer programming.
Kiboi Kuria Peter is an award winning producer of Commercials, Television and Film. He has spent the better part of the last 10 years cultivating a reputation for meeting tight deadlines, quick turnaround, attention to detail, building an extensive contact list of film professionals and exceeding client expectations. Currently Kiboi is a Line Producer and Production Manager at Propel Visions. Kiboi is a holder of a Bsc. In Mathematics a discipline he has transferred to his production of films. Kiboi is also a highly creative producer, having come from a background of screenwriting and content directing. More than anything Kiboi Kuria Peter feeds off the high energy buzz of a busy and challenging production with client satisfaction being his key reason for getting up every morning.
Lilian has over ten years’ experience and is currently a Producer and Production Manager at Propel Visions Kenya. She is highly skilled in the art of interacting and correlating with people, as well as building and maintaining relationships regardless of the cultural, socio economic or demographic background of the individual. She has produced hundreds of corporate and advertising productions. Lilian has gained extensive knowledge and experience in development and production of TV shows and corporate documentaries. She has also produced multiple events, ranging from award ceremonies, concerts, product launches, conferences, live coverage, distribution of feed to TV stations, live streaming, online content production, sports production, graphics, animation and TV commercials from initial concepts, through development & production to final output. This experience has brought out in her exceptional skills at setting goals that are measurable, time-based, challenging, and both short and long-term focused. She believes in teamwork and good work ethics since she has a strong enthusiasm for the task in hand. Lilian is a high energy producer who enjoys taking on new challenges. She is inspired by films that tell great stories which engage and entertain an audience.
Melissa is, in a word dynamic, with a vibrant, magical spirit that that touches all she works with. She has an extensive, impressive resume including work spanning over twenty-five years of producing in both commercials, feature films and reality TV. Melissa has hundreds of commercials credits as producer and line producer. These include spots for such prominent directors as Tarsem, Tony Kaye, Frederick Planchon, Luke Scott as well as a host of both leading and new South African directors. Her wide-ranging, invaluable experience makes her a real asset to any shoot. Melissa divides her time between South Africa, Ghana and Mozambique. She has become an authority on shooting in Sub-Saharan Africa, bringing knowledge and professionalism with her. Behind the scenes, Melissa is a collector of beautiful African art and fabric. This is a testament to her love of the region and the inspirational insight she has gathered there. Mel is also committed to developing the film industry in Lesotho along with her husband who is a director. With Melissa on the Propeller team you are guaranteed a professional, flawless shoot.
James is a passionate film maker who was born in Kenya and based in Nairobi. James has been in the film industry in East Africa for more than15 years working as a first assistant director on feature films, TV drama and reality series. He has also worked as an assistant director on hundreds of high – end television and internet commercials for some of the world’s biggest brands. This experience has allowed him to assist directors from countries around the world including, United Kingdom, United States, Australia, South Africa, and a cross section of European countries. James is well grounded with location, logistics and crew knowledge in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi. All this experience makes for a highly knowledgeable fixer, assistant director and producer partner for Propel Visions.
Catharine began her career as an accomplished actress in theatre, television and film. She then went on to develop her skills as an Assistant Director for some of South Africa’s top directors. For the last twelve years Catharine has been successfully making a living from directing numerous television series and commercials for South Africa, West Africa and the UK (BBC) Catharine has had four nominations for a SAFTA award and won the best director award at the 2018 SAFTAs, for the TV series iNumberNumber and also won in 2019 for a TV show titled The River, which was also nominated for an International Emmy. She ended 2018 on a high note, having completed as lead director on the much anticipated, The Girl from St Agnes, which was released in both South Africa and UK in 2019. This show broke the viewing record on the streaming platform, Showmax. Catharine began 2020 as the Creative Director on Mnet’s new flagship show, Legacy, which has become an audience favorite. In 2021 Catharine is directing a co-production between Freemantle (UK) and Mnet (SA). REYKA, is a dark thriller set in the cane fields of Kwazulu Natal, and boasts a stellar cast including Iain Glen of GAME OF THRONES fame and Kim Engelbrecht from THE FLASH fame.
