Jeff Balsmeyer balances a successful career as a director of feature films as well as directing commercials for top advertising agencies around the world.
Jeff started his career working as a storyboard artist for big name directors like Michael Mann, Spike Lee, Robert De Niro, Robert Redford, Martin Brest, Penny Marshal, David Mamet and James Ivory (to name a few) Working with such legendary directors, Jeff has storyboarded countless well known Hollywood films such as “Heat” “Malcolm X” “Quiz Show” “Scent of a woman” “Jungle Fever” “A Bronx tale” “Do the right thing” “Last exit to Brooklyn” “Mo better blues” “House of cards” and the list goes on…
In 1992, Jeff’s short film “The Room” won the Palm de Or for Best Short film at the Cannes Film Festival. Soon after this he began working as a second unit director on films such as “Anna and the King”, “A Pigs tale” and “Daybreak”.
Jeff directed his first Feature film called “Danny Deckchair” with Rhys Ifans and Miranda Otto in 2003. This delightful and heartfelt film received a Grand Prix nomination at the 2004 Paris Film Festival.
2010 saw the release of Jeff’s second film “Ingenious” with Jeremy Renner (Hurt Locker).
At the same time Jeff’s commercials have been hugely popular in Australia, India and South East Asia and more recently Africa. His high profile work for prominent clients has garnered several awards and he is highly sought after as a director in the region.
